History

The history of the V6 Sprints begins back in the late 90's, when the injuries and fatalities in current speed cars racing were not uncommon, as they were having trouble adapting to the new style track surfaces of clay.

This inspired a few current speed car owners to form a group to look at what could be done to improve their safety, from there discussions, it was decided to utilize the speed car chassis, but to include front and top wings, as well as utilizing a common, easy to access engine.

A letter was drafted to the major car manufacturers, including Ford, Holden, Nissan, Toyota and Mitsubishi, asking them if they have a 4 cylinder that would suit the application. Mitsubishi was the only manufacturer that replied, but they were not interested in the 4-cylinder idea. They then asked for a meeting with the group, Stan Wallace and Ray Bowers attended the meeting with Mitsubishi proposing the V6 engine.

A trip to the Mitsubishi factory resulted in Mitsubishi donating 12 complete test engines and 6 dismantled engines.

It was then into the workshop with Peter Pollard and Micheal Buxallen's cars to be the first to have the engines fitted into them, with Zeke Agars challenged with the design, development and manufacturer of the motor plate, sump and intake pelnum. Once the engine set up was proven, it was time to convert the remaining 6 cars to the V6 power plant.

The first official race of the V6 sprints as we know them, was on the 14th pf February  1998. with 8 cars on the track.
